Dance House

I am a San Francisco based choreographer and dancer. I have created this page in an effort to stay accountable in the choreographic process and to connect with the world around me.

I am addicted to this song from Heartbeats. This film really has so much nuance and humor.  It is definitely inspiring my new work.

After the creation of my last piece I am on to the next one.  I am working on a series of solo’s for my new character Sarah.  However, Sarah has yet to be fully formed so I think I will post some pictures/videos and the like that are inspiring me in the creation of this new person.  So here’s number inspiration photo number 1.  I am intrigued by not only the awesome dress but the sparkling red face.  I love this that sparkle :)

I am finding a ton of inspiration from this era of music and these girl groups.  Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Diana Ross and the Supremes etc. are true entertainment.

This song seems to be coming up again and again in the rehearsal process of this work.  I love the driving beat and the bounce it gives you to just dance.  Who doesn’t love a girl group?

As I have been creating this piece I have felt that I am taking myself a little too seriously.  Anyone who knows me knows that I hate that.  So I think this photo has inspired me to do something a little different.  Adore this hair.

After a few weeks of trying to figure things out I think we are slowly shaping something interesting.  These sections are still open for interpretation and negotiation however I’m looking at them to portray feelings of drama, whimsy and a little bit of a loss of innocence. I am working on these sections in the context of a larger piece but I’m hoping to weave them together so that they make sense, right now they are very choppy.

The second section is a little bit of whimsy.

The third section with Rogelio and Andrew dancing together.  I love this song by Tina Turner, it conjures up so many images.

Some phrase work.  Still shaky since our rehearsal time is really short but I find the music amusing.

So here we are again, Andrew and Rogelio rehearsing for my piece.  It’s really raw footage of them experimenting with being as masculine as possible emphasizing “No Scrubs”.  Super funny!!
